Seth Tuler has experience working in the areas of public participation, participatory research, and social issues in hazard management. He has been a researcher at SERI since its founding in 1995. Seth's primary research focus has been on methods for integrating analysis and deliberation in policy-making, including public participation in environmental decision-making and evaluation of risk communication and public participation. He has also conducted research related to worker and public safety in national parks, wildland fire management, and socio-economic vulnerabilities in fishery communities. Seth is particularly interested in the practical applications of the research at SERI. Toward this end he has been involved with a variety of projects relating to the health effects to residents and clean-up of areas affected by contamination from US nuclear weapons production and related facilities. From 2003 to 2006 he served on the National Academy of Science's Committee on Transportation of Spent Nuclear Fuel and High Level Radioactive Waste and is currently a consultant to the EPA Board of Scientific Advisor's Subcommittee on the National Center for Environmental Research. Seth received a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Policy from Clark University (Worcester, Massachusetts, USA) in 1996 and a M.S. from the Technology and Policy Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1987.
